DBT was initially designed to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD), but it has since been adapted for use with various mental health conditions characterized by emotional dysregulation and difficulties in interpersonal relationships.
DBT is founded on the dialectical philosophy, which recognizes the synthesis of opposites. In this context, the dialectic refers to the balance between acceptance and change. DBT combines acceptance-based strategies with cognitive-behavioral techniques to help individuals build a life worth living.
