These videos introduce kids, parents and teachers to an intuitive and tangible way to learn and teach the four basic operations in arithmetic. Following the method of the Belgian educator Georges Cuisenaire, we use coloured bars representing the numbers from 1 to 10. The videos illustrate how the bars can be arranged and manipulated to illustrate addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. To make the best use of the videos, parents and teachers are encouraged to obtain a set of Cuisenaire rods, which can easily be found online.
There are 5 videos for kids. The first introduces the numbers and bars. The four that follow use the bars to explain the adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing skills. There are eight accompanying videos for parents and teachers, showing drills to help kids master the four arithmetic skills. Following the videos that describe the four basic operations in arithmetic, a series of videos introduces fractions.
