This course discusses a third year occupational therapy student's doctoral capstone experience at an inpatient rehab hospital. The overarching goal of this capstone was to provide enhanced patient and caregiver education and resources to brain injury patients prior to discharge as well as implement brain healing environments focused on patient need. The course includes a needs assessment and literature review discussing brain injury education as well as artifacts/projects created to meet the objectives for this capstone experience. Artifacts used in this course include two brain injury education presentations that discuss different types of brain injuries, risk factors, the functions of each area of the brain, impairments associated with specific areas of the brain, neuroplasticity, caregiver tips, and brain injury resources. Other artifacts include low vision handouts, a phone accessibility feature handout, brain injury scholarly articles, brain injury treatment ideas, a brain break handout, and more. The course ends with a short four question quiz used to summarize some of the key points of the course.
