Description
In this course, we will explore the limitations of science in understanding reality by examining its implicit assumption that matter is not living. While science has revolutionized the way we live, it has almost nothing to say about consciousness, spirituality, or happiness. We will delve into why this is so and explore how the concepts of science can be extended to a living universe.
We will re-establish spiritual connections to the basic principles of physics and chemistry, and see that the laws of science are consistent with the concepts of animism. By extending science in this way, we open up the possibility of studying the spiritual and emotional layers of life.
In addition to exploring the spiritual dimensions of science, we will also examine the social and political implications of these ideas. By touching on Marxist theory, we will gain new tools for understanding cultural revolution and the ways in which science can be used to empower marginalized communities.
Overall, this course offers a unique perspective on the relationship between science, spirituality, and culture. Throughout this course, students will gain a deeper understanding of the limitations of science and the possibilities for extending it to encompass a wider range of human experiences

Shasta Winn, Saba Cooperative
A 501c3 nonprofit spiritual community and solarpunk dao
Shasta is the founder of Saba Cooperative DAO, a solarpunk storyteller, content creator, and community incubator. Shasta is also a group facilitator and counselor, supporting individuals and communities with a variety of issues, including co-occurring addictions, trauma, and dispute resolution.
Shasta holds an undergraduate degree in social work from Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts, and a master's degree in Psychology and Counseling from Goddard College in Vermont. Over the past 15 years, she has studied consciousness, world spiritual practices, and sustainable communities, and has designed and supported over a dozen outpatient, intensive outpatient, and transitional living programs in New Hampshire.
From 2009-2017, Shasta was a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (MLADC) in New Hampshire, operating her intensive outpatient practice and halfway house, Another Way Counseling PLLC, from 2014-2017. She also briefly taught undergraduate Biopsychology as an online adjunct faculty instructor for Southern NH University.
In 2017, Shasta transitioned her focus to healing using hypnotic journeying and plant medicines, attending conferences and workshops hosted by MAPS and Zendo. However, she completed her personal training and initiations into these practices as a self-guided mystical process, isolated for 40-days deep in nature. During this private hermitage with intense focus on psilocybin, Shasta experienced great transformation and formed her relationship with the mushroom, which now allows her to confidently guide others through their sessions. She has been facilitating private journeys, using psilocybin, since 2018.
Shasta is also passionate about socially building and networking healthy communities, permaculture, and nomadic life, as well as mystical pursuits, sound therapy, music, dance, and meditation.
