Description
This course is the dissemination of a third-year Occupational Therapy Doctoral student's final capstone experience. This course involves a specialty area of occupational therapy called the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to feeding. It discusses background information on the topic, information gleaned from a formal needs assessment and critically appraised topic review, and the details and accomplishments of this capstone experience. By the end of this course, participants will:
· Be able to explain the background and importance of feeding interventions within the pediatric population, including the unique approach of SOS feeding within the occupational therapy (OT) scope of practice.
· Understand the need for parent and caregiver carryover of SOS feeding intervention strategies at home, as well as the barriers they face surrounding implementation.
· Identify how this capstone served to contribute to the OT community.
· Identify how this capstone served to provide support for children receiving SOS feeding services and their families.
Capstone objectives include:
· Demonstrate the ability to utilize and analyze evidence for occupation-based practice and develop habits of life-long learning.
· Display professionalism, ethical behavior, and advocacy skills to influence positive change with clients, communities, and the profession.
· Student will demonstrate knowledge and mastery of SOS feeding skills with clients under the supervision of their capstone supervisor.
· Student will attend at least two online Webinars pertaining to feeding intervention in OT.
