Description
This short lecture along art workshop focuses on the series ‘36 Views of Fuji’ by Katsushika Hokusai. All paintings in the series depict the sacred Mount Fuji, a symbol of eternity. Hokusai paints varying landscape at different times of the year and day. The artist himself considered this series to be the greatest of his creations, although he completed nearly 30,000 works throughout his life.
The greatest Japanese painter had about 30 pseudonyms, but the name that brought him worldwide fame, Hokusai, means “Obsessed with painting”.
The workshop begins with a talk about Katsushika Hokusai, during which we explore the influence of Japanese art on Western art styles. The talk is followed by the paint along session in other course.
As a result, you get to know and follow all stages of completing a painting, starting with first sketch lines finishing with highlights and final touches.
In full course your workshop leader will take you through the step-by-step process to create meaningful artwork. Within this your instructor will cover the tools and supplies, technique and the painting process.
Plunge into exploring the aizuri technique combining undulating hills, soft clouds, and blue waters to create an image of great tranquillity. Reveal the timeless quality of the Japanese landscape surrounding Fuji. Touch the deepest philosophy of the genius of Japanese engraving through your own artistic practice and let the painting in the style of late 19th-century Japanese art settle in your home.

Hi. I am Daria. Thanks for checking out my lesson.
I am the founder of Arts Club London, an online art education platform. My passion lies in 20th century art, in particular abstract, which I believe it is key to understanding contemporary art.
My background is in architecture, having graduated from Moscow Architectural University and the Bartlett, UCL London. I am lucky to apply these 2 approaches to art education: the Russian fundamentalist school and the more creative European method.
Prior to Arts Club London I ran on- and off-line stand alone classes on 20th century and contemporary art with up to 800 attendees, covering artists such as Kandinsky, Malevich, Kiefer and the Abstract Expressionists. It was a joy to me to offer an alternative approach to art education by combining my technical background of architecture and my passion for 20th century art.
At Arts Club London we focus on experience by making; our hands on approach allows you to experiment with various techniques used by famous artists and immerse yourself in abstract art to develop your own style.
The Arts Club London course has been attended by more than 400 students of varied experience who have formed a community to share, support and create together. Many worked for the first time to develop their own artistic voice and methods, progressing to producing portfolios suitable for applying to exhibitions and galleries.
I hope you will enjoy the lesson and look forward to exploring the fascinating world of abstract art together.
